Submissions

Every 2-3 months, Concept Sci-fi publishes an E-zine containing short Science Fiction stories, articles on writing technique, poems, author interviews and details of novel publications.  We are dedicated to discovering the best in new and aspiring talents in Science Fiction and welcome submission from unpublished authors. 

The next issue of the E-zine will be published in September 2008.

Please carefully review our submission criteria below and then email your stories and articles to submissions@conceptscifi.com  Please note that any stories that do not conform to the criteria will be rejected.

Submission Criteria

When submitting your short story to Concept Scifi, please bear in mind the following:

  • We do not offer payment for submissions.  Concept Sci-fi is a free web site intended to bring together those who enjoy Science Fiction.  We hope that you will submit your stories because you want to share them with others.
  • We will consider all short stories with a Science Fiction theme, except for those that contain an unnecessarily pornographic or gory theme and those that take place in a trademarked universe, e.g. Star Wars.
  • We do not accept comic book stories or art.
  • You must be the author/owner of the story or article being submitted.
  • All stories must be submitted as either Open Office, RTF or plain text documents:
    • paragraphs should not be indented
    • italicized text should appear in italics
    • bold text should appear bold
    • paragraphs should be double-spaced
  • We do not accept simultaneous submissions - if you have submitted a piece to another publication and it's still under consideration, then please do not submit it to us.
  • We do accept multiple submissions from a single author.
  • We do not accept reprints.
  • We do accept poems - a maximum of two poems per author will be published in each issue.
  • There is no minimum word count.
  • Stories must not exceed 8,000 words.
  • Articles and author interviews must not exceed 5,000 words.
  • All submissions to submissions@conceptscifi.com must include your real name (this will remain confidential), the name under which your piece will be published (if different) and a statement as to whether you would be willing to edit your work if requested to do so.
  • Please do not submit short stories for critique.
  • Please note that we do not always acknowledge receipt of individual stories, but we will let you know if we intend to include your piece in our E-zine (see below).
  • Whether your work is accepted or rejected, you can expect to receive a response from us within 30 days.
  • Stories and articles are accepted and published in good faith.

What happens if we accept your piece?

If your story/article/poem is accepted, we publish it under the following agreement:

  • You agree to give us First Electronic Publication Rights to publish your piece on our website and in the E-zine for a period of 90 days from receipt of the submission acceptance email.  Please note that granting any publisher these rights will limit the future markets that your piece can be submitted to.
  • Once 90 days has elapsed, you may request that your piece be removed from the website.  We agree to remove the piece from our website within 14 days.
  • Articles published in the E-zine will remain in the back-catalog/archive and will be accessible for an unspecified period of time.
  • Copyright remains with the author.
